Chaldean numerology

Chaldean numerology is an older letter-value system with roots in ancient Babylon. It assigns numbers to letters by sound rather than by alphabetical order. Like all numerology it is symbolic, not scientific.

Pythagorean runs A=1 through I=9 and repeats in order. Chaldean assigns values 1 to 8 based on the vibration attributed to each sound, so the letter-to-number map is quite different.

In this tradition 9 is treated as sacred and set apart, so no letter is assigned 9, although 9 can still appear as the total of a name.

Chaldean is generally considered the older of the two, predating the Greek-influenced Pythagorean method that is more common in the modern West.
